The Edsel A. Spellman Jr. Mount Ararat Lodge Charitable Foundation is dedicated to uplifting the communities of Harford and Cecil Counties by providing direct, rapid support to families, individuals, and children in their moments of greatest need — bridging the gap between crisis and relief with speed, dignity, and care, acting as a critical line of support when it matters the most.
About Edsel A. Spellman, Jr.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown, Mt. Ararat Lodge realized that its hands were tied to be able to help members of our community. The Worshipful Master at the time, Edsel A. Spellman, Jr., desired to start a charity to be able to fill the gap and enable the Lodge to take action when it was needed. Unfortunately, Edsel passed away before he finished his term as Worshipful Master on December 6, 2020. Some people leave behind cherished memories and others leave behind a legacy that continues to inspire. Edsel left us with both.
His kindness, compassion, and generosity still live on through the Charitable Foundation. These virtues persevere through the lives of everyone Edsel helped and through those that the Foundation helps in his absence. He believed that helping others was one of life’s greatest purposes and he demonstrated that belief in everything he did. This Foundation, while intended to help the members of our community, serves as a lasting tribute to Edsel, his life, his character, and the compassion he showed to everyone he met. Our goal is to continue his selfless legacy and desire to help our community when it is so desperately needed. Each person the Foundation helps and support is another way of honoring his memory and carrying forward the legacy he left behind.
